My Favorite Children’s book

Among the children’s book that I have read, YOU ARE SPECIAL by Max Lucado is my favorite. It is a story about a young wooden boy named Punchinello who is very clumsy and less talented. Every time he fails or messes up things he gets a grey dot, while others with talent and good looks get golden stars. He gets very upset and depressed with life.  It affects his self-esteem and he believes something must be really wrong with him. That is when he gets to meet his maker the woodcarver.  In this heartwarming children's tale Eli the woodcarver helps Punchinello understand how special he is, despite all his weaknesses and short comings, his maker still loves him because he made him. I loved this book for the vital message it has for children everywhere: that no matter what others may think, regardless of how the world evaluates them, God cherishes each of them, just as they are. Punchinello realizes, after he spends some time with Eli who loves him unconditionally, the dots will not stick to him, because he is special too.YOU ARE SPECIAL is a must-read for anyone of any age. It is a book that I read to my son. He even has the video of it which he loves to watch. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to read this book here is the link to the story: http://www.lollie.com/thinkagain.html or you can watch the story on youtube: http://youtu.be/q_rJ9hF1Ylw

  1. Deepa,
I have read this book, too. Max Lucado has written so many good books (adult and children's). Another one of his that I like is Just The Way You Are. Have you read that one?

  2. Deepa, this is a great story. I am going to order this and read to my preschoolers. They are at the age where they are seeking approval and are always concerned about what others think. I try to encourage them to only worry about themselves and not care what others do or think!
